Number of suspected Ebola cases falls by hundreds as testing ramps up

The DRC Ministry of Health removed suspected cases that have been ruled out after investigation on May 29, resulting in a significant reduction in suspect case counts . Improved laboratory capacity, including the delivery of 2,000 Ebola testing cartridges to the DRC, enabled more timely detection and identification of cases . As of May 29, 2026, there were 1,262 suspected and confirmed cases and at least 241 deaths reported across the Bundibugyo ebolavirus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda .
