School shooting survivor sues AI gun detection firm after system failed to spot weapon

A student injured in the January 2025 Antioch High School shooting has filed a lawsuit against Omnilert, the company behind the school's AI gun detection system. The school had an Omnilert AI-powered visual gun detection system installed and operating at the time of the shooting, but it failed to detect the handgun before shots were fired. The suit claims the company marketed the system as capable of detecting firearms "before a shot is fired" and providing "unparalleled reliability," but failed to disclose limitations related to camera placement, distance, angles, lighting and weapon visibility.
