SpaceX is planning to launch a direct-to-consumer Starlink mobile service in the US , as SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell discussed during a recent investor roadshow . A standalone mobile service would place the company in direct competition with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile , expanding beyond its current partnership with T-Mobile where SpaceX provides satellite connectivity but T-Mobile controls subscriptions and billing . SpaceX acquired significant wireless spectrum licenses from EchoStar last year for $19.6 billion to support this expansion.
