Two space shuttle-era spacewalkers enter Astronaut Hall of Fame

Tom Akers and Joe Tanner, veteran space shuttle astronauts who each flew four missions, were inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame on May 16, 2026. Tanner logged 1,069 hours in space and more than 46 hours on seven spacewalks, while Akers logged more than 800 hours in space and 29 hours of spacewalk time.
