NASA has put its Lunar Gateway space station project on hold because of corrosion found in two main modules, HALO and I-HAB. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman testified before Congress that both the Lunar Gateway habitable modules delivered to NASA (HALO and I-HAB) were corroded. In March 2026, NASA announced it would pause the station as designed and would instead focus on a lunar surface base between 2029 and 2036, repurposing Gateway hardware and partner contributions where possible.
