NASA's next-generation spacesuit for the Artemis III mission, the AxEMU developed by Axiom Space, has passed a contractor-led technical review and continues undergoing testing with NASA astronauts and engineers simulating surface operations. Over 700-850 hours of crewed pressurized testing have accumulated by early 2026, with additional work ongoing including ground simulations. However, a recent NASA Office of Inspector General audit released in April 2026 warns that the suits may not be ready by the agency's hoped-for 2028 lunar landing date, potentially not ready until 2031 if the company experiences typical spacesuit development delays.
