NASA's Artemis II mission successfully concluded on April 10, 2026, when its four-person crew — Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen — splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off San Diego after a 10-day crewed lunar flyby, the first crewed flight beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972. The mission broke Apollo 13's distance record, marking the farthest humans have ever journeyed from Earth at 252,756 miles. Following the flight, mission managers identified several items needing close inspection — including the heat shield and a service module valve requiring redesign — with NASA acknowledging a tight turnaround as Artemis III is slated for the following year.
