Zillow lost access to thousands of Chicago-area home listings when MRED (Midwest Real Estate Data) cut off its connection to the regional database, reducing available listings from nearly 5,000 to around 2,000. The dispute centers on private "pocket" listings marketed only to select buyers, with Zillow having banned them in 2025 to promote transparency, while Compass and MRED continued allowing the practice. Zillow sued MRED and Compass for violating antitrust law by conspiring to hide home listings from potential buyers.
