Anthropic says Alibaba must be punished for largest Claude cloning attack

Anthropic accused Alibaba of a coordinated, industrial-scale operation to illicitly scrape data from Claude , using nearly 25,000 fraudulent accounts to generate more than 28.8 million exchanges between April 22 and June 5, 2026 . Anthropic claimed Alibaba used "adversarial distillation," repeatedly prompting Claude to harvest its reasoning patterns, allowing competitors to train rival AI models while bypassing millions in development costs .
