Chinese AI startup DeepSeek is developing its own inference chips to reduce Nvidia dependence and break U.S. export controls, as China moves to protect its AI ecosystem. DeepSeek has been quietly developing its own AI chip for approximately a year to reduce the company's dependence on both Nvidia and Huawei, the two suppliers currently powering its AI operations. While chip export controls in the US are a major reason this is an urgent concern for DeepSeek, US-based AI companies are making similar chip plans.
