F1's 2026 power unit regulations introduced a true 50/50 hybrid split between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor (MGU-K), while eliminating the MGU-H entirely — a change that has caused significant on-track problems, most notably "super-clipping," where cars lose speed mid-straight as their electrical energy depletes before the end of the straight. In the weeks leading up to the Miami Grand Prix, the F1 Commission, manufacturers, and the FIA scheduled a series of meetings to assess the real-world competitive impact of these power unit energy management issues, with qualifying identified as the most visibly distorted part of race weekends. Potential near-term corrective measures under discussion include reducing the maximum recoverable energy per lap — for example, capping it at 5MJ — to lessen the reliance on super-clipping strategies and make on-track performance less artificial.
