Volkswagen ended production of the ID.4 electric SUV at its Chattanooga, Tennessee plant in mid-April 2026, primarily due to a sharp drop in EV demand following the Trump administration's withdrawal of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit as of September 30, 2025. The facility will instead build the Atlas SUV , with the all-new second-generation Atlas for model year 2027 central to this shift, with production expected to begin in summer 2026 and dealership availability in the fall. The 2026 model year ID.4 will continue to be offered in the U.S. from existing inventory expected to last into 2027, and Volkswagen has stated a successor or updated version is planned for North America, though further details have yet to be announced.
