“Negative” views of Broadcom driving thousands of VMware migrations, rival says

Nutanix CEO Rajiv Ramaswami announced at the company's .NEXT conference in Chicago that approximately 30,000 customers have migrated from VMware to Nutanix's hyperconverged platform since Broadcom's acquisition of VMware in November 2023, citing widespread customer dissatisfaction driven by higher prices, forced product bundling, the elimination of perpetual licenses, and reduced partner programs. The migrations represent Nutanix's strongest new customer additions in eight years, with notable enterprise defectors including Western Union, which is moving 900–1,200 applications across roughly 3,900 cores. Other virtualization rivals such as Microsoft Hyper-V and Proxmox are also competing for displaced VMware customers, while Broadcom has remained largely unconcerned, focusing its strategy on retaining its largest enterprise accounts.
